Organic Products VAT Free!

LESS IS MORE: 6% VAT less on organic, 1% VAT more on conventional.

Buyers of organic products are active and knowledgeable consumers. They accept that good food has its price. They do not, however, accept that VAT is exactly the same for organic as for non-organic. VAT, Value Added Tax is all about value. Organic, besides the taste and the health of its products, represent a huge value to the society at large. Organic means value to human life, to animal welfare and the environment.

That is why we firmly believe that VAT on organic products and produce should be lower than on non-organic. In fact we believe the 0% VAT bracket should apply Europe wide on organic products.

In the Netherlands alone 160.000 persons (equivalent of over 4% of the households-) signed a petition at www.biobtwvrij.nl demanding a 0% VAT. (from the current 6%).

As we do realize that most VAT issues should be decided at EU level we have decided to rally support for a European petition, likely to reach the MAGIC Million during the Autumn of this year, starting in March.

6% VAT off of organic and just 1% more on conventional food means billions of euro's extra tax income available for the further development of organic into the certified most sustainable method of agriculture and foodproduction.

Does this burden the buyer of conventional foods? Not likely, as the 6 off add 1 increases the expenditure on food only fractionally.
